I have worked in my current studio on the shores of the Holy Loch, Argyll for the last 4 years. After working from a small room at home this studio space is luxury! Its a great space to create all my work from a lump of clay to finished work packed and boxed for a gallery collection. Plus there is plenty space to run classes from.
All my ceramic work is created using stoneware clay. Initially thrown on the pottery wheel, then trimmed and shaped to become its finished form. I like simplicity of shape with a strong emphasis on practicality of use and strength. My aim is that people love my pottery and use it in everyday life.
The finished look of each piece has very much been informed by my surrroundings and my travels around Argyll. I layer up slips and glazes to abstractly hint at the beautiful island shorelines. I use locally found clay mud to represent wind and hills and I use texturing tools created from found objects in the strandlines to add depth to some pieces. It is pottery made in Argyll and about Argyll.
