Drey Workshop is situated in the beautiful Cowal peninsula and combines the skills of ceramicist Karen Mcphail, and woodworker Gregor Campbell. We are both graduates of gsa, and having pursued careers in education and creative practise while bringing up our family, in 2018 we moved to rural argyll and established our studio.
Home and family life is our inspiration, making furniture, puppets, toys and decorations for celebrations. Children’s book illustrators, Maurice Sendak, Brian Wildsmith, John burningham and the imaginary world of Tove Jansson enriched our lives. Gregor captured the everyday in his ‘drawing a day.
For the the past 10 years Karen has exhibited her ceramics widely. During this time she developed her distinctive technique of paper resist slip decoration and a contemporary take on folk art imagery.
