My whole life I have been surrounded by the sea and it has always acted as inspiration for my creative process. Having moved from university in Aberdeen back to the west of Scotland I have continued to use this source of inspiration. I have established a firm methodology of travelling to a range of beaches to take samples of rock textures and forms. These samples are then made into moulds and each piece then individually press moulded by hand. I strive to create forms that are organic and natural in shape and colour. The idea of function has always been important throughout my ceramic journey, however some of my pieces can also fit within the decorative ceramic. My current collections are a showcase of three separate editions of work. Two that I began at university and have now developed further and another collection that I designed after leaving university. They are all inspired by three different Scottish coastal areas, Stonehaven, Inverbervie in Aberdeenshire and the Holy Loch in Dunoon. I believe that I have created a style of work myself as a maker which mirrors the Scottish coast.
