I am a sculptor specialising in stone carving from my workshop in the Scottish Borders. My practice consists of a combination of my own sculpture, and stone carving commissions. My own work is concerned with the iconography of signs, I like to play with the connections between an imaginary world, and material reality. When working with clients over a commission I take more of a collaborative approach, in which my drawing skills and knowledge of stone can help to bring an idea to life, and successful completion, in liaison with the client.
The range of commissioned work is extremely wide, and includes all sculpting, Including relief carving, lettering for inscriptions, and some restoration work. My skill set is largely traditional - hand carving, drawing and exploring ideas.
I have been working with stone since graduating from Glasgow School of Art in 1990, and past experience includes exhibiting and working within museums and galleries, public art, heritage bodies and private clients.
