Gillian Stewart is a prize-winning bookbinder working from a studio in Glasgow's East End. She runs Juju Books bookbinding studio where she makes bespoke books and boxes by hand for artists, writers and book lovers. She's particularly interested in the meeting point between the structure and the content of the book, and enjoys working collaboratively with clients to find the best fit for their work.As well as commissions, Gillian creates contemporary fine bindings that incorporate printing, leather dyeing, painting and gold tooling. With a background as a published illustrator, Gillian uses mark making and rich texture to bring life to her bindings. Interested in contemporary materials and processes as well as traditional, Gillian is currently exploring dyeing and gold tooling Tyvek, magnetic closures and carbon.Gillian often teaches groups and individuals, as well as at Art colleges.She is Chair of the Society of Bookbinders and Scotland, and a Licentiate of Designer Bookbinders.
