I am an emerging textile practitioner based in the North East of Scotland. My main focus is printed textiles and print design. I have developed my practice over the last two years using analogue mixed media mark making, mono printing, and screen-print textiles, as stand-alone items or to influence, or be re-created as, digital print designs.
My work features the colours and textures I see around me in the natural environment of Scotland; work inspired by my formative memories growing up in the natural spaces of Aberdeenshire.
I take the colour combinations and simple, often overlooked features, and distil these elements to form my own textile designs. I enjoy a connection with the landscape, myself and my practice away from the distractions of my busy urban life. My work aims to create an expression of place, enabling urban dwellers to bring something of that particular landscape into their homes, replicating that connection.
I use a blend of luxury textiles like cashmere and wools, against lighter silks, sheer fabrics, velvets, and heritage tweeds. I am interested in creating a sense of texture and depth through my designs and often finish pieces with additional embroidered embellishments.
