Veronique covered the basics of marketing and discuss practical ways to create content that serves your goals, and participants were provided with a marketing and social media toolkit to work through.

Alan will share his own experiences as a designer/maker, and discuss some of the values and decisions that have shaped Green Thomas’ vibrant and successful brand identity, selling globally to a breadth of clients in independent boutiques and high-end department stores.

In this first session, Glasgow-based textiles designer/maker Laura Spring will speak about her journey from the film and theatre industry, to establishing her own eponymous label and print studio in 2011, and working with world renowned institutions such as V&A Dundee and the Tate.

In this second session, Edinburgh-based silversmith Bryony Knox will talk about her 20 years career creating a variety of objects ranging from kinetic gates and steel sculptures to silver boxes and sculptural vases, and past commissions including objects for J K Rowling & HRH Princess Anne. Glasgow-based jewellery designer/maker Heather McDermott will speak about her sculptural jewellery inspired by the shoreline on the Isle of Skye, where she grew up.

WebinarMaker Journeys in Focus: Cara Guthrie and Frances Priest

Hear from five Scotland-based designer/makers about their own experiences navigating the creative business landscape.

In this final session, Edinburgh-based ceramic artist Cara Guthrie will talk about discovering ceramic in evening classes in London, changing career and and opening her pottery studio in 2017 following an apprenticeship in Denmark. Edinburgh-based artist Frances Priest will discuss how she combines her studio-based practice with site-specific projects, residencies and commissions, and joining the public collections of UK institutions such as the National Museum of Scotland, and V&A London.

Residential COMPASS: Residential 2021

Craft Scotland’s COMPASS: Residential, held at Hospitalfield in Arbroath, is designed to allow makers the time and space to develop their business thinking and their craft practice.  

This five-day residential will provide a dynamic and immersive learning environment with an emphasis on peer support, collaboration and creativity. Utilising the building blocks from the one-day workshops, along with new sessions, Craft Scotland will encourage the makers to challenge their thought process in a supportive environment.
