Introducing the new craftscotland.org

We’re delighted to welcome you to the new and improved Craft Scotland website!

We wanted to create the best online platform for championing design-led, contemporary Scottish craft. Together with our website agency Everyone, we have worked to create a beautiful, visual website that showcases Scottish makers’ handcrafted work to the fullest.

Our online offering has been streamlined to make the popular areas of our website more user-friendly, whether you are just having a browse or looking to promote your quality craft events and exhibitions. Additionally, we have made a whole host of smaller, but impactful, changes that will make your digital craft experience more enjoyable.

We want to thank you for your patience whilst we were making these changes to our digital platform. We hope you love the improved Craft Scotland website. Read on below to discover the changes we’ve made to the popular sections of our website.

What’s On & Opportunities

With new, improved functionality, you can once again upload your craft events, exhibitions and workshops to our What’s On section. If you have opportunities for craft makers in Scotland, we have updated this too, and you can add these to our upgraded Opportunities section. Once listed, you can also easily log in to your dashboard and make any necessary changes to your entry. We encourage you to make full use of the new image and video gallery to inspire our readers and really give a flavour of what you’re offering.

Craft Directory

Our new Craft Directory is a curated showcase of the best in contemporary craft by professional makers living and working in Scotland. One of Craft Scotland’s aims is to promote high-quality contemporary craft practice locally, nationally and internationally. Our directory is central to this aim, connecting audiences with craft and makers from Scotland.

Find Craft (the former Craft Directory) was a popular online destination for consumers, collectors, curators, retailers, press and other industry contacts to learn about and source Scottish craft. We wanted our new directory to provide these audiences with a taste of the incredible, design-led work that Scottish makers are producing. Our new directory has initially launched with a small showcase of high-quality Scottish makers and craft destinations, but stay tuned, over the next few months there will be plenty more added. Sign-up to our newsletter (top of the page) to be the first to meet the makers.

Makers

Makers, our Craft Directory presents your work in the best light, promoting your craft to a wide audience and streamlining your Craft Scotland opportunity application process. Now that our previous Directory no longer exists, you will have to reapply online to join the new, curated Craft Directory. There is an application process and an annual fee. You can find out more about our eligibility criteria and the benefits of joining the directory in our Join section. We have also collated this list of helpful FAQs, to answer any questions you might have about the new directory.

We've also created a Maker Community area that is your one-stop shop to develop your professional practice. In our Organisations to Know section, we've collated details of organisations and businesses that exist to support makers at all stages of their careers. Coming Autumn/Winter 2017, is our maker Resources section featuring insightful blog posts to helpful how-tos giving you the information and perspectives you need to grow your craft business.

Stay tuned

We will continue to grow our website over the coming months, including adding new inspirational stories about the Scottish craft sector and expanding our online resources for makers.
