Don't Dump It, Recycle It!

In Scotland, there are multiple facilities to reuse or recycle your craft waste, here is a quick guide for what to do with your leftovers.Jeweller Jo Pudelko mentioned you should conduct an audit of your studio bin and see what you can responsibly dispose instead of sending it off to the landfill. 

By disposing of your craft waste responsibility you will save them from ending up in the landfill, and maybe even another maker will continue on its life. Help us to add to this list, email us with your suggestions…  

1. Yooz

A social enterprise that provides an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream. They offer building site clearance services, office clearance services and waste collection. 

2. National Reuse Hotline

Call 0800 0665 820 to have large re-usable items collected for free.

3. Community Resources Network Scotland

Scotland's national reuse, repair and recycling charity.

4. Glasgow Wood Recycling

This social enterprise provides wood collection and wood recycling services at competitive prices.

5. The Revolve Network 

Revolve is a re-use quality standard for shops who sell second-hand goods in Scotland.      

6. ReUseful

Reuseful is a national charity network of scrapstores and creative reuse centre.

7. Freecycle

It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills.

8. Gumtree

Gumtree is the first site for free classifieds ads in the UK. Why not list your leftover craft materials on Gumtree.

9. Freegle

Don’t throw it away – give it away on Freegle! You might not need that old sofa or wheelbarrow anymore – but there might be someone just round the corner who does. Or if there’s something you’d like, someone nearby might have one.

10. Remake Scotland

Remake Scotland is a creative reuse organisation, aiming to divert potential landfill and encourage grassroots creativity. They run a scrapstore and their creative Outreach team is passionate about turning potential landfill items into new objects of desire.
