I have been making jewellery since 1990 when I started my apprenticeship as a gold and silversmith In Cologne/Germany.
After my apprenticeship I went on to study Jewellery and Product Design at the University of Applied Science in Düsseldorf.
In 2002 I moved to the UK and two years later I started up my own business with a Crafts Council setting up grant.
I work independently as a jewellery designer/maker and have my studio at Coburg House Art Studios in Edinburgh.
My jewellery is inspired by the traditional techniques of a goldsmith working in precious metal.
However, I like to combine the precious metal with elements from the urban and rural landscape that I live in.
I enjoy exploring the past history of old utilitarian objects like discarded iron nails and keys or natural materials like antlers found here in Scotland and discovering the beauty of these everyday things in an unlikely setting such as jewellery. My aim is to remove the existing ‘label’ of their purpose and discover a new and unexpected identity when I transform them into contemporary jewels.
