In the stillness of the summer night, not everything sleeps.

This piece was inspired by a beautiful summer evening in the meadow between my house and the river Muick, the meadow was an ocean of flowers and their scent, heightened by the warm evening air. The blue bird is symbolic of happiness.

This piece came from a memory of my beautiful dog Beula who disappeared whilst out in the snowy woods.The river Dee was frozen over and sadly we think she may have gone through. She has become a spirit dog and wanders the riverbank in search of home.

And The Silence was complete.

The river has always held a fascination for me, The Green Isle of The Great Deep,by Neil M Gunn, was for a long time one of my favourite reads, the river is a portal to another dimension, In the, deepest,darkest pool the salmon of knowledge and wisdom waits.

Dweller of the threshold

The red bird appears in many of my pieces, they indicate a connection between the secular and the spirit world. Messengers bringing thoughtfulness and knowledge should we wish to embrace it. salmon too are often found in my work, otherworldly, they are historic (Scottish) symbols of knowledge and wisdom.
