Commissions

Katie Charleson designs and produces screen- printed textile home accessories and bespoke interior commissions. All designs are hand printed and stitched by Charleson, fulfilling her vision of luxury craft products that are vibrant artworks in their own right.

Trained in printed textiles at Glasgow School of Art, it was here that her love of screen printing was ignited: inspiring her drive to experiment and collage with techniques, dyes and fabric manipulation.

Katie believes textiles are most expressive- the juxtaposition of the texture of a fabric and its treatment with pattern, dye and mark making can be dynamic; creating drama, depth and interest or can likewise be soothing; calm, voluptuous and sensual. Katie’s current interests and inspirations can be found in the architecture of Le Corbusier, Ricardo Bofill and especially Luis Barragan. Use of colour, shape and light inspires great fascination and will continue to guide Katie’s work in 2021.

Katie has spent her time during lockdown developing ways to work with archival samples and remnants, leading her to develop a collection of tactile, textural, textile collages. Katie has embraced quilting and applique as a core part of her practise while working towards expanding the scale and ambition of her prints.
