Drawing on nature and the Scottish landscape, The Canny Squirrel creates a range of characterful handmade Harris Tweed cushions, accessories and homewares featuring intricate free motion embroidered animal designs from their home studio in Paisley.Designer/maker Katherine Pentney began her career as a graphic designer and during this time she taught herself how to sew, and explored various stitching techniques at a textile evening class. Her love of animals inspired her to experiment with a free motion embroidery technique - perfect for replicating the lines and textures of fur and feathers, and the result is very tactile. This sparked the idea for her animal designs, and after lots of practice and hard work, Katherine left her job and launched The Canny Squirrel in 2013.Harris Tweed is the backbone of all the products. It is a wonderful warm, tactile material which is steeped in history and tradition. It is woven by enthusiastic weavers who are proud of their heritage and who use traditional techniques which have been passed down through the generations. The Harris Tweed is deeply inspired by the Scottish landscape and provide the perfect backdrop to bring the animal designs to life.
