Working from her studio at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, Kate creates work on a monumental and minute scale with an eye for intricacy and fine detail in a range of materials including metal, jesmonite, wax and ceramics. She pays close attention to the technical processes used when hand-producing her pieces including, engraving, scrimshaw, casting, metal plating and hand-turning. Kate has artworks in recognised public and private collections including the British Museum, Royal Mint Museum, NHS Lothian, National Bank of Slovakia, University Museum of Bergen and Museo della Carta e Filigrana, Italy. In 2011, she was selected as ‘New Medallist 2011-12’ run by the British Art Medal Society and supported by the British Museum, V&A, Royal Mint and National Academy Sofia. In 2019, Kate was awarded a Craft Scotland ‘Established Makers Award’. She regularly exhibits work and recently showed new experimental pieces at The Bowes Museum. Kate was Lead Artist for the Art & Therapeutic Design Project ‘Old to New’ 2016-19, creating 19 sculptural pieces for the new Royal Hospital for Children & Young People in Edinburgh. Next year she will be leading on the ‘Opposing War Memorial’ for Conscientious Objectors, to be installed in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh.
