Woodland

Artists' book made with 3D print technology; lasercut birch plywood (3mm) front cover, laser engraved back cover and laser engraved acrylic sheets (2 and 3 mm) as printing plates. 24 handpulled prints on Xcut Xpress with Caligo safewash ink, combined in 12 signatures which have been handbound with a coptic stitch.

Destination Recovery (book 1)

Binoculars made from cardboard and papers containing two circular concertina books with images of the birds I spotted in my garden while recovering from an injury. Images from Biodiversity Heritage Library.

Where land and sea meet

Dos-à-dos artists' book with perfect binding and handcut Admiralty maps that have previously been used by my friend who is a sailor.

Constructieleer

Hardback book with case binding, headbands and 51 handcut pages from offcuts received from a printer. The end sheets contain copies of notes and drawings from my father-in-law who worked as a construction supervisor. The book comes in a slipcase covered with the same notes.

The Red List

Hardback cover containing two triangular books inspired by the IUCN Red List of threatened species. On the left an accordion book with 7 double-sided relief prints of each endangered species. On the right an origami book with digital prints of the endangered species.

Readings from a river landscape

Clamshell box with a set of three artists' books from collagraph prints; a back-to-back accordion book, a portfolio booklet and a Venetian blind structure. This was made after my residency in Massachusetts, USA.

Blouse book

For this book I used an old blouse as the main material. During a papermaking workshop I made paper from its fibers. I bound the papers into 9 signatures with a French link stitch. The button and tapes have been made from scraps of the same fabric.

Destination Recovery (book 6)

Pill box made from cardboard and papers, representing the medication I was taking when badly injured. It contains an accordion book 5 synonyms of "heal" that all have been handstitched on paper with cotton thread.

Columnar Basalt Lava

Hardback book with two hexagonal accordions with separate booklets. Each booklet contains a fine art print from photos of basalt columns in Ireland and Scotland I have visited, an illustration or text from the book "The tertiary Volcanic Districts" by the British Geological Survey (1961) and handcut hexagon windows.
