I am a Scottish designer specialising in printed and dyed textiles. In spring 2019, I spent four months studying in Kyoto, where I learned traditional Japanese textile techniques while gathering research and inspiration for my graduate collection at The Glasgow School of Art. The experience I had in Japan has left a lasting impression and has greatly informed my practice as a print designer.
My work captures details found in my surroundings, often when visiting new places. With a focus on hand-drawing, collage and repeat pattern, I create considered print designs with a refined use of colour. I use a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques including digital printing, screen-printing and katazome - a Japanese resist-dyeing method. With an interest in fashion and interiors, I like to produce versatile prints that can be used in both contexts.
After graduating in summer 2020, I went on to win The Clothworkers’ Company’s Printed Textile Design Award at New Designers. My work featured in Visual Arts Scotland’s Graduate Showcase, where I was selected as one of seven rising stars in Scottish art and design. Most recently, my first collection of silk scarves was selected for Crafts Council’s Future Edit exhibition.
