Graduate Textile Collection

Part of my graduate collection, this textile was created using katazome - a traditional Japanese dyeing technique which involves applying resist-paste through a stencil before applying dye to the fabric. I hand-cut the intricate design on the stencil, shown here casting a shadow over the textile.

Another piece from my graduate collection, with a 3D element informed by origami. The repeat pattern inspired by woven flooring was screen-printed in two colours onto cotton, then cut into triangles and bonded onto cotton muslin. The length of fabric can be manipulated by hand to create a 3D effect.

Japanese cotton was screen-printed with contrasting colours and repeat patterns inspired by Kyoto. The prints were then hand-cut into kite shapes and bonded onto silk organza to achieve a 3D effect. When sunlight shines through the gaps between the shapes, the shapes are repeated in shadow.
